Pet odors and stains must be treated properly in order to remove them and prevent a resurface of the stain and odor. Pet urine can infiltrate the carpet fibers, the primary and secondary backing and the padding, especially if a pet uses the same spot over and over and oftentimes they do just that. This makes it especially difficult to entirely eliminate pet odors and stains.

You must first identify the source(s) of the odor as it may not always be readily identifiable with a stain. You can do this with your own scent, or if you prefer a more pleasant experience, you can use a black-light that will make those urine stains shine.

Once you have identified the source, the first step is to pre-treat the urine stain with a chemical that removes fat deposits from the urine.

The next step is to treat with an enzyme product that will actually eat the proteins in the urine that the bacteria are feeding on. The key is to remove the protein so that you eliminate bacteria. Bacteria is what causes the odor. This can take time to work, so allow a few days for the product to do what it's designed to do. A stronger enzyme count works faster. You may want to consider this for heavily soiled urine areas!
